Nourishing Dancers (athletes)

I was invited to share a little bit about nutrition for dancers at my daughter’s dance studio earlier this year. Now we are kicking off competition season and I thought it would be useful information for all young athletes. Teaching kids to listen to their bodies is vital. So many eating disorders and disordered eating patterns begin with messages from coaches. Help children come to realize that healthy bodies come in all shapes and sizes and that their level of performance has little to do with their what they specifically eat or don’t eat. Rather, having enough food and a variety of food is most important to have the energy they need to sustain activity and to grow. Young athletes need to foster a healthy relationship with food that will last throughout their lives.
